Sure, joining a new company brings a lot of excitement - new code, new surroundings, energizing new teams and ideas - blah, blah blah.... Let's be honest; the absolute coolest thing about joining a new company is that all of the "stuff" you've been evangelizing for years has a fresh new audience!
When I suggested I truck out one of my old presentations about Akka or Scala, my fellow NetSuite folk politely decided that "none of the above" was to be their selection. It's been a while since I've given a whirlwind tour of Akka, and there's been a decent amount of change in the interim, so I whipped up this little presentation that tries to deliver a decent overview of the three main axes of Akka (as I see them) in as few slides as possible.
The deck is a tad lack-lustre because the animations don't translate all that well to SlideShare but the main thrust is there. In it, you'll find a description of Akka's Actors, (Scala's) Futures and the brand new Streams feature. Akka's offering is still one of the best on the market, Typesafe continually moves it forward, and it makes for fantastic presentation material. Thanks Typesafe.
